OMG High School is great!! I have made soooooo many new friends. (Dont worri Matapu School I haven’t forgotten yhu) This is a quick post but I have gotten thru Term 1 so BRING ON TERM 2!!! I am writing in response to a letter we recently recieved containing evidence we have been conducting unhygenic barbeques. I believe that this is not so, because of the following reasons.
First of all, the surfaces we prepare our food on are clean. Every barbeque we make sure that we have clean chopping board so that we don’t transfer germ that would have been from the week before onto the onions we prepare that day. It is the same with the utensils and the tables we serve the food on. After each barbeque the students in charge wash the dishes and tables with luke warm water and dish washing liquid. We will wipe it with either a sponge or multiple multi purpose cleaning towels. It’s the same with the table, except clean materials.
Before we begin cooking food we clean the barbeque, we use the same materials as the tables and dishes except again we use fresh clean materials. We repeat again at the end ready for the next week.
When preparing the food we use appropriate materials. Before we start handling the food we apply Hand Sanitiser which is located in the classrooms, and then we wear gloves. We only wear gloves when preparing and serving the food. Wearing gloves when cooking sausages or onions is a major safety hazard, the plastic could melt onto our hands and sverly burn us. When we are serving the food we have five stations, where one person is located during the time for serving. This is done so that we don’t transfer germs from one station to another.
I hope you have taken this information into account and don’t fine our school

Here is a graph of my flash facts scores from the end of last term and beginning of this term.
As you can see my scores went down when I moved up from Book 5 to 6. My averages now are ranging around 15.
Here is the story I wrote- The foul smelling liquid drips out of her neck. Poor thing had a hard birth. She was born back to front and upside down. I really feel for the cow. And today her life came to an end.
The cow was hung in the shed with a pool of blood surrounding her. The stench of raw meat lingers in my nose. It burns the skin on the inside, I think it has permanently affected my sense of smell. I slowly stretch out my arm to touch the cream coloured fat that covered the carcass. My finger slides over the surface of the fat, it’s slimy and bouncy like a moss plant except not furry it was more wrinkly. Wayne slices off the final piece of skin exposing the flesh surrounding her lungs. Her nerves were pumping for about 2 minutes really fast before beginning to slow down.
Dad reaches for his knife and slowly and carefully cuts right down the middle of the carcass through the fat and flesh. Krissie and I quickly run and grab the cut in half drum underneath it and… SPLAT! The internal organs landed in the drum. The stomach was as big as a Swiss ball, blue with fat covering half of it. I was amazed, I do know that it has 4 stomachs but I didn’t think it would be that big. Perfect picture moment. I whip out my phone and begin taking pictures. Wayne asks Krissie for his axe. Uh oh what is he gonna do.
I take a step back as he swings it over his shoulder… CRACK! Wayne’s cutting the spine. It sounds like he is trying to cut a rock, not a pleasant sound. He works his way down and gets to the ribs, Wayne slowly cuts them one.. by.. one. I thought he was doing it just to annoy me. It sounded like branches snapping. One thing I don’t I don’t really like. He stops cutting at the neck to keep the carcass in place.
Dad starts to drag the organs out to the offal hole. That doesn’t really work so tips it out onto a tarpaulin and drags it out that way. Once they get out by the hole dad begins lifting up the tarpaulin and every thing starts falling in. The stomachs ends up on top but it doesn’t all fit so Dad has no other choice but to… you guessed it he popped it. It didn’t make a noise but it let out a horrendous smell. That led me to the question….. What else do cows eat other than grass?
This week my WOW was my Handwriting. My goal was- Is my slope from right to left? I did this well because- I focused a lot more on my goal this time than what I normally do. I will improve next time by- I will focus entirley on my goal that I set for myself. |
